Happy Monday! It’s that time again…
In the morning, Cakes and I went to the local Farmer’s Market. It’s the one I normally go to and it’s brimming with fresh produce! I was bummed when I didn’t see the usual coffee guys (they have great bubble tea, too). Oh My Gosh! I just went to look them up so I could link them, and I am pretty sure they went out of business! Now I am SUPER bummed!
On the plus side, I got some awesome produce. Broccoli, green beans, tomatoes, strawberries, local honey, cheese curds, freshly made doughnuts, and more! I meant to take some pics to share, but I was sleepy this morning and forgot.
After the Farmers Market, we all headed to my mom’s for our monthly book club meeting. This month’s book was The Mystery Box by Eva Pohler. I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it was definitely a page turner. It’s full of twists and turns, so there’s not much I can say about it without giving spoilers. We enjoyed discussing the book around the pool. My book club, like many others, is mostly a group of ladies gossiping, having cocktails, with a little bit of discussion about the book thrown in. It’s a great time, every time!
We were all exhausted after a day in the sun and pool (I didn’t get in the pool today, it was still too cold!).
Sunday was Father’s day. We don’t do a lot of special activities for Fathers (or Mother’s) day. Hubby only asked for an expansion for his new favorite board game, Firefly. I’m not really sure where to go to pick it up, but I’ll be calling around to find it. His gift might be a little late this year. Ooh! I think I just found it! …I called a local store and they say they have 1 copy in stock. The lady couldn’t find it on the shelf, but I am going to drive over there and see if I can find it. … Just called a 2nd, closer store and they have one in hand. If I come in before they close, I get it for 25% off! Time to change out of my pajamas and scoot on over there! What? Isn’t it normal to write a blog entry in your pajamas at 1:30pm?
Whew! Managed to grab a copy. Also bought daughter a MLP comic book. She couldn’t even wait to get home to read it.
Now, I just need to wait until the hubby gets home so I can give him his gift. He’s been out of town all weekend helping his aunt fix up her summer cottage. I figure it’s a fair trade since she has let hubby and his paintball buddies use her cottage a couple times. Plus, we usually go out there for a week or so in the summer with the whole family.
Are you looking for menu/meal ideas for the week? Here’s what I’m making this week.
Chicken Pockets and Green Beans
French Bread Pizza with Salad
Calzones with Green Beans
Spaghetti with Salad
Wild Rice Chicken with Broccoli
These are all new recipes for us. A friend loaned me a freezer cooking book and I decided I would try out some of the menus. Since all of these recipes came out of a book, I don’t have anything to link for you guys… sorry! If you’re interested in any of these recipes let me know in the comments and I will do my best to share. The book, Once a Month Cooking, gives 2-week meal plans as well as full-month meal plans. I decided to try 1 week at a time. I’m not sure if I will take a day and do all the cooking, or just cook 1 meal per day.
As an aside, I have found a lot of recipes that call for frozen bread dough, but can’t seem to find it at the stores I shop at. I’m in the Chicago area and usually shop at Aldi and Jewel. Anyone have tips where to find frozen bread dough?
THE UPCOMING WEEK
Aside from my normal cleaning, cooking, and laundry, there’s a few things I would like to start working on this week.
- Learn at least 1 new sign per day. I would like to teach the new baby some simple sign language so we can communicate before the baby can really talk. Just things like hungry, full, etc.
- Start taking online “classes” for web design and coding. There are a lot of free online resources that should help me on my way.
- Use my copy of Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish. It’s a language I have been wanting to learn for a long time, but never had the chance.
- Try to be inspired creatively. I’d love to find something I can sell that is made with my own 2 hands.
I am not sure I can accomplish all of these things every single day, but if I can do at least one per day I will be happy.
What are your plans for the upcoming week? Are you planning on trying any new recipes?
