Nintendo DS case [WIP]

June 8th, 2009 1 Comment

I found this amazing carrier for a Nintendo DS on Craftster. The creator had posted a link to their blog where they had posted a tutorial. Unfortunately, they were forced to take down their blog so I no longer have access to the tutorial (even tried the WayBack Machine). Having just recently picked up a DS, I really wanted a case for it (specifically, that case). I decided to see if I could duplicate the design by just looking at the pictures. Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, is it not? Here is my first attempt.

Ignore the strings. I didn’t bother to cut them off since I knew this wasn’t going to be the final version.

  • Could be taken in as much as 1/2 an inch on each side.
  • Would move the larger GBA slots to the bottom row
  • Needs to be taller, exact amount TBD.

  • Use walking foot when sewing vinyl/plastic on. Mine kind of bunched up because it wasn’t feeding right. Or maybe tissue paper since I found it hard to see the edge of the vinyl when sewing.

Other than that everything else seems to work. There is a slot to hold your stylus, or maybe an extra one, but you can’t see it in the pictures. That will be fixed when I make the next one taller.
If I manage to get this case exactly how I like it, I might consider posting a tutorial. I would ask the original creator of course. I figure it shouldn’t be a problem since they did have their own tutorial posted once, but had to take their blog down for legal reasons.
