Happy Monday! Here’s a recap of what we did this weekend.
Since Thursday was the last day of school around here, Friday was our official start to the weekend. Friday during the day was pretty relaxed. The kids were happy to sleep later than the crack of dawn. They got to play a few video games and generally loafed around the house. I did need to make Daughter come with to my doc appointment. She seemed unimpressed by hearing the baby’s heartbeat.
Friday evening is when it got hectic. Daughter had a birthday party to go to at 8pm. It was a backyard movie party. My plan was to cook dinner, stuff our faces, run to the store for a gift (because I always do that last minute), then drop her at the party. Of course, things didn’t work out as I had planned. I had decided to grill salmon for dinner. When I checked on it at the halfway mark, everything seemed to be going well. But, when I thought dinner should be done, I found out I had run out of propane – probably shortly after the mid-point when I had checked on it. So, I had half-cooked salmon and asparagus. I ended up having to heat up the oven to finish cooking, which of course put us behind schedule. By the time dinner was done, I had 1 hour to get to the store, buy a gift, get home to wrap it and scoot on over to the birthday party. Thankfully, we made it on time (mostly due to my daughter’s class having a new obsession with Pokémon. Pokémon cards for everyone!).
Friday evening is also when I found out I finally get to help Alpha test the game I have been waiting for, The Repopulation. If you love sandbox games, sci-fi games, loved SWG, or have a soft spot in your heart for Kickstarters and Crowdfunding you should check it out! I spent what was left of my Friday evening downloading the game.
Saturday was the opening of Farmer’s Markets in my area. I have been impatiently waiting for this day for months! A friend of mine and I decided to hit up a Farmer’s Market we had never been to. She had driven past last year and said it looked huge! It was much bigger than the one I normally go to. There were lots of crafty booths and people selling their wares. There were a lot of booths devoted to children (education, books, experiments, etc). It was quite neat! Unfortunately, that also meant there were less produce booths than the market I normally go to. I’m glad I went, and I would totally go again, but next week we are going to hit up the market near me so we can stock our fridges with local produce! (omnomnom, I’m hungry now!)
I had hoped to spend Saturday Alpha testing my game, but that didn’t work out for me. Hubby invited some people over to do a paintball marker cleaning day. If you don’t know what that is, let me fill you in. They all head down to the basement, clean and fix their markers, mess with vests and belts designed specifically for paintballing, modify and rig different things up for the next paintball game/scenario… and are generally giant dorks. They, of course, need to test their markers after the cleaning and repairing, so they head out to the backyard and shoot the heck out of my poor tree. Right now, my tree is bright pink! While they were doing this, I didn’t want to be rude and hide myself away at my computer, so I hung out and was social. I did end up getting to play for a bit after the kids went to bed, so that was awesome!
Since I didn’t get to play much on Saturday, I was hoping to play The Repopulation more on Sunday. Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of my control (and that I can’t talk about due to NDA), I didn’t get to play my game on Sunday either. I decided to be productive.
I made my menu plan for the week. If you’re looking for meal ideas, here’s what I am making this week:
Sausage, Pasta & Broccoli – This is probably my son’s favorite meal, and he is VERY picky.
Chicken, Rice & Broccoli
Sweet & Tangy Meatballs – Another of my son’s favorites.
Barbacoa Beef – Hubby saw this and practically drooled. I’ve never made it before but it sounds delish! I’m cutting the recipe in half.
Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice Soup – Possibly my husband’s absolute favorite soup! I usually pair it with Peasant Bread which is super easy and always delicious!
Quinoa Burrito Bowl – This was a recipe I was shocked when hubby declared he loved it. He gets excited whenever I mention it. Funny that my meat-loving hubby adores one of my fav vegan recipes.
Hubby also asked me to dye his Blue Sun shirt. He wanted it to look more like Jayne’s from Firefly. I think he has big plans for that shirt. If it ever happens, I’ll post about it. But for now, this is the result of the dye job.
I also tried out a new tutorial to make the “Weekend Recap” image. It reminds me of perler beads. It’s also why this post is a day late (I am a photoshop/illustrator newbie). I have strong desire to pick up some perler beads, now.
I feel this was a productive weekend! I think I deserve a little rest. Maybe I will curl up on the couch with a good book.
Did you do anything fun and exciting this weekend? Do you have any big plans for the coming week?
